Alumni Spotlight: Charles Sengstock, class 6/1950

Charles Sengstock

Charles Sengstock is a noted author and music historian. As an author, Charles has several published works.  That Toddlin’ Town: Chicago’s White Dance Bands and Orchestras, 1900-1950 , published by the University of Illinois Press in November of 2004, describes the dance bands and ballrooms from the early to mid 1900’s. His other book, Jazz music in Chicago’s early south-side theaters was published by Canterbury Press of Northbrook in 2000.

Besides being an author, he is also an accomplished accordionist and arranger who played locally with a Steinmetz organized combo called “The Tetratones”. Several other members of the band were also from the class of 6/1950, and included Bill Nawrocki, Bill Spencer, and Lee Ziomek.  Chuck has also worked in Chicago Radio with Chuck Shaden (6/1952) on the “Those Were The Days” program.

If you have any information on any outstanding Steinmetz alumni that we should spotlight(even if it’s yourself), please feel free to contact us with info! Use the “Alumni Spotlight” selection in the drop down menu.
